The coolest track ever

Posted on Tuesday 27 December 2005

Last night I was up quite late, tired of reading, listening to random selections from my music archive.

I was just laying there with the good headphone on, being one with the sound and suddenly I heard the coolest thing ever.

I’m not kidding. The music touched my soul like none had ever done. I was enthralled. It was the music that I wanted for the soundtrack to my life. It was every cool fucking thing you’ve seen in the movies, in books, in the real fucking world and I was listening to it right then and there.

It was 2 o’clock in the fucking morning and I was dancing, I couldn’t stop moving, I couldn’t stop grooving, it was the life I wanted to having in a condensed version of coolness. The experience was amazing. I haven’t felt anything like that since the first time I heard DJ Shadow who combines all sorts of combined all sorts of influences into something unique and wonderful.

This Charlie Mingus track was different. It was the music that I wished was the soundtrack to my life. It was everying cool.

Not cool in the “cool dude” high school kid sense. I’m talking about cooooooool, man. Cool that touches the soul, cool that sets the mind on fire, cool that makes the world the exciting, wondrous place, it so rarely it, cool that is just fucking cool. Cool like the Rat Pack in the 1960s. Cool like jazz in the Village in the 1950 at 4 AM. Cool like Paris in the 1920’s. Cool like the best Indian food you’ve ever had. Cool like spiritual sex at 2 in the afternoon. Cool like cooooooooooool…

I’m not sure there is anything cool like this is anymore. Maybe the first dawning of hip hop. Maybe the first time the Sex Pistols played drunk and confused on a stage. Maybe the world just doesn’t have cool anymore, man. Maybe the world has lost it’s way. Too many fucking politically correct assholes. Too many right wing motherfuckers. Too many people lost in fear to be.

They just need to hear the “Hatian Fight Song” by Mingus, man.

So here you go…

[the shorted version of the Hatian Fight Song called II B.S.]

I hope it makes you as cool as you should be.

Not as coooooool as that Charlie Mingus track. Nothing is as cool as that. Space isn’t as cool.

I didn’t know I had it until the shuffle of the player found it. That’s what happens when you rifle through a friend’s music collection and pull things that you like, have heard, and just kind of know about, or think you should.

okay, i don’t always agree with you on what is cool (like for films, fr’ instance), but in this case, I will have to agree. And thank you for posting the music.

You don’t always agree with me? About FILM?! What the hell is that? Why not just stab me in the eye with a pen and scream out the lyrics to songs from The Music Man while you’re at it insulting me?!
