This week off has been productive for one reason and one reason only…the cheap $20 worth of parts steadycam I built. I was so proud of myself too.
“Ooooo…look at me screwing pipes together. I’m like a real man! Putting stuff together and drilling holes into metal rules! I am a construction GOD!”
The amazing thing to me was that it actually worked. Probably not as well as the $2000 hydraulics assisted Glidecam, but well enough so that my handheld walking shots don’t look like Uncle Bernie got drunk, had forgotten to put is fake leg on, and then grabbed a camera to take a look up women’s skirts.
“Hey, baby! Let me hope over there and record something for posterity!”
It’s going to be a whole new world of smooth moving shots and a bevy of spectacular cinematography.
Now I just need to find someone who can do that ’cause I sure can’t.
[note: Steadycam.org provided the basic plan and I modified it a bit to suite my tastes. Like the snazzy gaffer’s tape wrap I put on the handle.]
