Okay, so normally I’m not self-aggrandizing here but I noticed that when I put the very old one off joke I shot called Push the Tempo on YouTube I got a few more comments than I did about the Breakdancing Tomato. That made me search for the title and that came up with a few copies of the original music video for the Fatboy Slim song Push the Tempo.
The self-love (which is normally meant for late night hours not coffeehouse hours) part comes in when I’m comparing the two. I think I did a damn fine job considering I had no idea what I was doing and my budget consisted of on miniDV tape and a couple of beverages for people who held the camera.
In fact, I’d say it’s just as good as that official video aside from image quality. There. I’m an ego maniac now.
And apparently, this French guy enjoyed it too.
Okay, so that’s me and my ego and some Frenchman who think it’s great. You have to listen to the French man, they did movies like Rififi and Le Samourai and just for that they have a special place in the understanding of cool.
Which is what Push the Tempo (my version) is all about man. It’s noir. It’s poise while engaging in a Sisyphean task. It’s about the human fucking condition man!
The sad thing is that the video is the best thing I’ve done, it was the first thing I’ve done, and I’ve done a significant amount of shooting since then.
