It’s a baby gila monster only about an inch long. At least, I’m pretty sure it’s a gila monster but then my zoology skills are lacking. It could be a hamster on holiday. I wouldn’t be surprised.
What is really cool, although I can’t seem to get the image to be aesthetically pleasing enough to show you, is that in the high res version of the photo you can make out the reflection of my camera only a few inches away in the creature’s eye.
