Life is tough. The cows laugh at us.

This is a related thought to the previous post about thoughtful looking cows…

Life is tough. I’m not just talking about working or having a family or having to pick and choose an insurance provider or just move on from a relationship or bury a loved one or face your own demise.

It’s all of life that’s tough. The mere act of having the quality of life brings tribulations and trials. That is a curious thing about life and the more curious feature of consciousness is that you become aware of the trials and tribulations such that you can ponder why they exist and imagine a state of nirvana where they do not.

The cows on the ranch eat and sleep and live until that last few hours when the aliens come and put them in ships that transport them to the afterlife. Or however cows understand that last moment of life before the hammer explodes their brain.

That is life for everything. Live…simple and easy or struggle and fight…but die at the end and become meat for some other creature.

Such notions are understandable as an intellectual exercise. Understand evolution. Understand the chemistry and the physics of the organism. Understand the sociobiological expendability of the individual in the context of the social organism. Understand the metaphor of the mystical tradition rolling around the human mind. Understand the connections between all of those things and what you still end up with it a big fucking why?

Or maybe that’s just me. I can’t stop pondering why…why why why why why why why why why why…

All the live long fucking day.

The French shaman I’ve befriended seems to see meaning and purpose in all things and believes in ancient spirits who inhabit holy places.

Such notions only make me wonder why. Why are they there? Why are they there at that place and not some other place? What does holy mean?

Are we all one consciousness experiencing itself subjectively? Why?

Are we all just pieces of chemicals waiting to be consumed and turned into other chemicals?

Is there a perspective that shows you something deeper? Is there some way of understanding the universe so that it makes sense and has meaning other than an abstract cold understanding?

Some say that all is God’s Will but that’s about as meaningful as saying all is Bob’s Will. Who is Bob and what is his will crafting us to see and do?

It just begs the question why this and not that? Who is Bob and why is his will all paramount? What is Bob’s story? If he has a will he has a story?

It’s the story that perplexes me. Human beings absolutely need a story and that makes me wonder why also. Why story? Why need for meaning in an otherwise meaningless existence? Why does mythology rule humanity?

Evolution random walks creatures well suited to their moment in time. What does that mean? We, as a people have adapted to be computer users typing out thoughts into a bigger consciousness which will obviate us all one day?

It that what the cows are pondering when they look at you? Are they laughing cow laughs? Are they seeing our future and their future and then chewing on the grasses with humorous knowing?

It’s possible that they see more than we think they see and it’s possible that we see more than we think we see too. It’s possible that there is no seeing at all and that all moments are one and for some inexplicable reason we see them as discontinuous.

Which would make me wonder why?

The great thing about cows is that they don’t ask so many questions…that, and you can eat them.
