This might be the most traditional photo I’ve ever taken. It seems the fact that I grew up in New York City has so deeply effected me that I am still amazed by animals other than pigeons, cats, and dogs even after 8 years of being away from that place.
So here are some pretty horses grazing. A languid photo of an idealized land.
[note: I’m still amazed by cows too. “Look at that! A COW! A cow! Right there!” pops into my mind every time I take a drive on rural roads and I do that almost every weekend these days.]

Ah… I know what you mean. Early this year I had an amazing afternoon encounter with some horses past Redington pass while mountainbiking … It didn’t matter that they were certainly old ranch horses and very used to people… I was “alone” out there with nothing between me and these 3 large animals but my camera, excitement, and fear of bucking. All they wanted was my cliff bar. But it was thrilling, and fascinating. Got to find those pictures.
And I’m always amazed where cows can hike to… it’s crazy to me to come accross cows at the top of a hill I’ve just spent an hour huffing up slowly. Happened in the Gila wilderness, and Cochise stronghold. I hope you’re out hiking … I’ve been just too damn busy for my own good.
I’m making crappy movies no one will ever see. But it’s more fun than anything else in the universe.
