Finally some footage

Posted on Sunday 8 April 2007

I finally got some of the HD footage I shot in New Mexico for a pilot episode of “L’Aventure Interdite” (Forbidden Adventure) or “Shaman Travel” depending on the market it’s being marketed to and it appears there’s a chance that might happen.

The clip below is the raw edited footage, not even corrected, from the final cut of the show. There are translation errors, typos and some sound work that needs to be done but it’s mostly locked down now from what I’ve been told. Only the details left to do. Always the damn details!

I’m pretty happy with it, especially considering how quick and improvisational the shooting, with nothing but a camera, natural light, a shaman and some guessing. I’m especially happy with the fire footage because, while that fire looks small on screen, I had to get damn near into it for most of those shots so I was always wondering if it was just the sensation of close heat of if my pants really were on fire. Not to mention, the nagging thought that maybe, just maybe, the camera was going to melt.

[note: The blue fringing that shows up in some of the shots appears to be a compression artifact since it's not in the original. It's a shame I don't have access to the original footage but when the editor and producer is flying to France the next day you often don't get everything you want.]

That was really beautiful. It definitely draws you in. The night scene is truly mystical. Loved the walkabout style daytime shots too.

By the way mr. freeballin’ consider yourself lucky you still have pubic hair after shooting so close to fire. I think you’ve uncovered a new singe off the hair removal method.

You should see some of the 8 billion photos I’ve taken in the past year.
