Knowing nothing

Posted on Wednesday 15 August 2007

I was watching a thunderstorm tonight. Flashy lights popping silently in the distant distance, stars poking out ahead of the clouds racing towards the city and my perch on the roof, the vibration of the cooler strangely calming…

About that time I realized how little I know. And I know a lot about computers, cooking, the implications of the doom for the entire world in the incredible debt the US has been building up during the glory years of the Republican ascendancy where everything is roses and you’d be a traitor to question it, lots about physics, cameras, I can even fake being an outdoors kinda guy in a pinch, I’ll bite a snake’s head right off if I have to.

And yet, it would seem that I am confused and befuddled by most everything I encounter. This crazy new world, this crazy old world, life, relationships, love and hate, the strange feeling in my spine all the time, the beauty of a reflection of light in the afternoon, the flashing lights and dazzling sights of the big city, jobs, playfulness, even what to wear to functions. It’s all quite baffling.

That’s so strange. The simple things confusing the complicated things so clear. What I wouldn’t do for a nice simple postcard detailing all the answers to all the questions. Such a thing would really clear up a lot of questions.

“I’ll bite a snake’s head right off if I have to.”

    You’re on. $5.00?

$5 isn’t “have to”. $5000 might be. Then I could go to India and find the hottest pepper in the world (naga jolokia by the way) and wander a bit in the land of really tasty food.
